Test comments regarding 2014 and 2015

HP966IX

This model has the feel of quality. It surprises with a flexible air flow speed control, and it has a powerful boost function. Finally, it is remarkably quiet at its minimum level. A good choice.

RBS93IN

A cooker hood without any apparent weaknesses - and with a couple of nice extras such as a timer and a filter saturation indicator. Note: The male electrical cable plug is not supplied.

RHV910IN

A fairly quiet cooker hood which could be more powerful. Be aware to remove the coal filters if you use the hood in the air extraction mode (not mentioned in the user instructions). No male electrical cable plug is supplied.

EFC90345X

For the most part, a well designed, powerful cooker hood but with almost useless mounting instructions (only 1 page). The non-return air valve was very tricky to mount and to keep in place.

HD230NR

A well functioning cooker hood from the largest American supplier. In theory the grease filter is not supposed to go into your dish washer. For you to decide ;-).

SHD1032X

A French traditional brand - you almost feel the handicraft approach. Very good lighting. Two large coal filters are supplied with it. Don't forget to remove them if installing it in the extraction mode!

KALINKA

A beautiful and intelligently designed cooker hood with logical buttons and a practical timer for each speed. Note: The adapter for reducing the Ø of the air outlet from 150mm to 117mm is already mounted and not shown in the mounting instruction. The lighting is weak and uses quite a lot of power.

3283-60_KIM

A cooker hood that some will like! The lighting is outstanding and it takes up only little space. However, the user instructions are long but incomplete. The pre-mounted adapter for reducing the extraction Ø for the air outlet from 150mm to 120mm was not mentioned. For this reason we have tested WITH the adapter, which reduces the score and the extraction performance. The use of incandescent lights makes it less energy friendly than others.

DWW09W460NR

A classic looking cooker hood. The non-return air valve is difficult to mount in a way that avoids vibrations and noise.

AHT63IX

A cooker hood that keeps its promises as a simple down to earth model. The mechanical finish could be slightly more precise, but overall good value for money.

GHQ97IX

A good looking cooker hood with easy to use, logical buttons. Very complicated mounting instructions with many screws and cumbersome installation of the air pipe connection.

KD91X

A solid looking and feeling cooker hood, which is slightly noisy, though. The electrical cord is supplied without a male plug. Useful mounting instructions are drawn on the cardboard box.

AKR441NR

Made in Italy. Pleasant design and lighting. Not very user friendly mounting instructions. Poor finish. The "brim" makes an awful high-frequency sound. The model is delivered without a non-return air valve.

FHT6131NR

A good cooker hood for the money. The grease filter is very light and takes up a whole level in your dish washer. For the air recirculation mode the coal filter is supplied with the hood. The electric cord is only 0.5m long, instead of 1.5 (per instruction booklet). The lighting is weak.

AHC63WH

An inexpensive cooker hood that would fit in anywhere. The electric cable is very short, but the non-return air valve is efficient and easy to install. The filters cannot go into the dish washer and must be washed and changed every two months.

Zinia

Good looking. However, with a certain lack of efficiency!

AHG77IX

An overall well-functioning cooker hood. The boost function does not give much additional extraction. It comes with a nice and handy remote control. Good, comfortable halogen light.

DHU675U/01

A solid and no-nonsense cooker hood. The non-return air valve has been improved and now fits perfectly, but its plastic could do with an upgrade as well. Since earlier models the air extraction has gone up, but so has the noise level: A bit too much for our taste.

KSE912NX3

Definitely a cooker hood which is true to its Italian design and solid reputation. You will find extras, such as a boost mode and useful timer functions. The noise level is low - almost comfortable.

HLB98AAXHA

A cooker hood from the Whirlpool Group (Indesit’s Hotpoint) that gives you much. It extracts a lot of air and the touch buttons are responsive and intuitive. You better like orange writing on a black background if you go for this model. The aluminium filters are a bit light and the corners of the cooker hood are outright dangerous: Watch out for your head and for those of your guests.

HNB98LBXHA

A high performance boost level mode in addition to extraction levels adjustable over a large range. We like that. Attention to the details when mounting it - there is room for improvement for the manufacturer. Installation instructions could be better.

KS9500XE

A robust, classic, Italian designed hood with a very high performance boost extraction mode; - however, also with a noise level that underlines the performance.

The NeutraTEST Score explained

Based on our analysis of official EU data, compulsory as of 1 January 2015, we evaluate with one single character, called the NeutraTEST Score, the overall performance of each hood.

The scale ranges from 0 to 10, with 10 being the best.

We weight the extractor capacity of the hood measured in m3/h and the sound level measured in dB SPL (A), both at minimum, maximum and boost, by 60%. The remaining 40% is equally distributed between energy consumption and fat filter efficiency.

In addition, we continuously test hoods in our own laboratory.
